Ladies earn first-round bye in NCAA Championship

BRACKET

GAMBIER, Ohio -- With Monday's release of the 42-team NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship bracket, the Kenyon College Ladies learned they earned a bye through first-round play and will battle either Grinnell College or Luther College in the second round.

Kenyon, winners of the North Coast Athletic Conference, enters the championship with an 8-0 record. The Ladies' appearance on the national stage is their fourth consecutive and their 22nd overall.

The section of the bracket in which Kenyon will work also contains teams from the University of Saint Thomas, Concordia University Wisconsin and the host of the first three rounds, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

First-round action will see Grinnell, 6-0 and winner of the Midwest Conference, take on Luther, which is 12-4 and winner of the American Rivers Conference. In the adjacent first-round bracket, Wisconsin-Whitewater will take on Concordia Wisconsin. Whitewater owns a 12-5 record and the 2021 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title. Concordia is also 12-5 and the champs of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Following first-round play, Kenyon will take on the Grinnell/Luther winner in the second round, while St. Thomas awaits the winner of the Whitewater/Concordia match.

The regional final will take place the next day, also at Wisconsin-Whitewater. The winner of that match moves on to the national quarterfinal, which will play out in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Exact dates and times of the matches through the first three rounds will be determined tomorrow after a conference call with all participating teams. The matches will, however, fall between Thursday, May 13 and Sunday, May 16.
