Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lords start schedule with loss to Blue Streaks

GAMBIER, Ohio -- A physical battle between a pair of Top-20 men's soccer teams went the way of the underdog, as the No. 20-ranked John Carroll University Blue Streaks upended the No. 10-ranked Kenyon College Lords on Wednesday evening at Mavec Field.

The visiting Blue Streaks managed just five shots against Kenyon, but they made the most of them, scoring on the only two shots they put on goal. At the other end of the field, Kenyon tallied nine shots, with three on goal. The Lords also had a distinct 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Those advantages, however, didn't pan out for the Lords. They had to play catch-up for the majority of the game, as John Carroll netted its first goal about 15 minutes from the start. That goal developed when a long pass down the left sideline gave Benjamin Hryszko room to roam. He curled into the left side of the box, about 10 feet from the post. He then laced a pass back to Jared Ianiro, who redirected it into the Kenyon goal.

With three minutes left in the first half, John Carroll struck again. A bad pass in Kenyon's defensive zone was intercepted by a charging Nicholas Graeca, who ran up the middle of the field. Kenyon goalkeeper Ian McInturf attempted a slide tackle at the top of the box, but Graeca managed to plow through it, leaving nothing but empty space between him and the Kenyon goal.

It wasn't until the game's 71st minute that the Kenyon attack finally broke through. A beautiful pass from Sebastian Brylka, who was just shy of midfield, sprang Eamon Dujakovich free. Dujakovich split two John Carroll defenders on the run, met the ball after one bounce and lifted it over the head of Connor Gynn, the Blue Streaks' goalkeeper. That goal was the first of Dujakovich's collegiate career.

Despite the late push, Kenyon could not tally the equalizer against John Carroll, a team that has now won five of the last six matches with Kenyon, dating back to the 2011 season.

The Lords will look to turn things around on the road, where they will next take on Hanover College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
