Bluffton serves up sweep of Ladies

BLUFFTON, Ohio -- Kenyon College's Macy Reimbold recorded six kills and Maya Sapsford racked up 16 assists, but those efforts alone couldn't halt the Bluffton University Beavers, who scored a 3-0 win over the Ladies volleyball team on Wednesday night.

Kenyon (0-1) also got four kills apiece from Elyse Davidson and Lindsey Abramson, as well as 17 digs from Ellie Luciani and nine more from Reimbold. As a team, however, Kenyon's 20 kills were matched by 20 errors. On the other side of the net, Bluffton tallied 38 kills with 14 errors for a .255 attack percentage.

The Beavers (1-0) were paced by Kaylie Campbell and Alysha Like, who both threw down eight kills. Emma George added seven kills and Kelly Armentrout chipped in with six more.

Kenyon did get off to a good start, building a 4-2 lead in the first set, but Bluffton bounced back quickly by scoring eight straight to move ahead 10-4. In that run, the Beavers had three kills and benefitted from three Kenyon errors. That margin of six points was as close as the Ladies would get before dropping the first set 25-15.

Things were a little more competitive in the second set. The teams traded leads until Bluffton jumped from a 13-12 advantage to a 19-12 advantage after two Kenyon errors were parlayed with three Bluffton kills and an ace. The Beavers then forged ahead for a 25-18 second-set win.

Kenyon ran out of gas in the third set, falling behind 10-4 before dropping the set 25-14. The Beavers had 12 kills and four errors for a .286 attack percentage in that final frame.

The Ladies will now look to rebound over the weekend as they head to Marietta College for the two-day River City Classic. They'll play Washington and Jefferson College on Friday, followed by matches with Marietta and Franciscan University on Saturday.
