Ladies outlast Presidents to pick up first win

MARIETTA, Ohio -- It took five sets, but the Kenyon College volleyball team rallied to claim its first win of the season. It came against the Washington and Jefferson College Presidents and it occurred on Friday, the opening day of the River City Classic at Marietta College.

Right from the start, it was clear it was going to be a close match. The Ladies and Presidents went back and forth until Kenyon pulled out a 27-25 set-one win, The Ladies tallied 18 kills in the set.

In set two, the Ladies tacked on another 17 kills, but Washington and Jefferson held on for a 25-22 win and then followed that with a 25-19 win in the third set.

Facing defeat, the Ladies pulled it together and cranked out 15 more kills and a .303 attack percentage to take the fourth set 25-21. Even more impressive, the Kenyon women carried that momentum into the fifth set, where they logged eight kills and an outstanding .538 attack percentage. They took that final set 15-8 and claimed the match win.

The victory evened out the Ladies' season record at 1-1 and gave Head Coach Rosanna Sguerra her first win on the Kenyon sideline.

Individually, Macy Reimbold amassed a team-high 19 kills. Lauren Limbach tallied 15 and both Elyse Davidson and Paige Milhon chalked up a dozen. Maya Sapsford dished out 31 assists and Jac Cousineau added 20 more. In the back row, Ellie Luciano piled up 21 digs, while Reimbold had 15, Limbach had 14 and Sapsford had 13.

The Ladies return to action Saturday for the second and final day of the River City
