Lords struggle to solve Fighting Scots

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The College of Wooster offense generated 595 total yards and moved the ball at will during a lopsided 49-7 win over the visiting Kenyon College football team in the first North Coast Athletic Conference contest of the season for both teams.

The Fighting Scots scored on their first two possessions, posting 14 first-quarter points. The second and third quarters also saw the Fighting Scots record 14 points, before they settled on seven points in the fourth.

Wooster quarterback Mateo Renteria was 15-of-19 for 340 passing yards and three touchdowns. He gave way to back-up Setz Jutz, who was 2-for-2 with 71 passing yards and another touchdown.

At the other end of those scoring passes were Carter Warstler, Bryant Douglas and Mitchell Heilman. Warstler caught three balls for 148 yards and two scores. Douglas also had three catches. He took them for 90 yards and a touchdown. Heilman had one catch and it went for a 55-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Kenyon's lone score came in the third quarter. At the 6:18 mark, back-up quarterback Ryan O'Leary broke loose on a 24-yard touchdown run to bring the score to 35-7.

Just before O'Leary's score, Wooster got a two-yard touchdown run from Troy Baughman and just after O'Leary's score the Fighting Scots got a three-yard touchdown run from Andrew Yanssens.

Back in the first quarter, Baughman had another two-yard touchdown to cap off Wooster's first drive of the game. Following that, the Fighting Scots whipped up three long scoring strikes through the air to move into halftime with a 28-0 advantage.

Kenyon starting quarterback A.J. Allen ended up going 10-for-21 with 94 passing yards and 19 rushing yards. O'Leary followed up by going 8-for-12 with 91 passing yards and a team-best 34 rushing yards.

In the receiving department, Andrew Schnarre was once again Kenyon's top target. He hauled in five passes for 45 yards. Sean Goodman matched those 45 yards on two catches.

Overall, the Kenyon offense had 185 yards in the air and 94 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Mychael Leno and Jason Kessler led the Lords with 10 tackles apiece. Jimi Bello had seven tackles and a forced fumble and Nathan Fanta accounted for Kenyon's lone quarterback sack.

The Lords remain on the road next weekend, traveling to DePauw University to take on the Tigers at 1 p.m.
