Kenyon falls on the road to DePauw

GREENCASTLE, IN -- The Kenyon Lords football team fell on the road to the DePauw University Tigers, 44-0, Saturday at Blackstock Stadium.

The Lords won the coin toss and elected to defer their option to the second half. This gave DePauw the ball to start the game, an opportunity they would take advantage of. The Tigers went 56 yards in five plays to cap off the opening drive with a touchdown.

Down 14-0, Kenyon would try to cut into the DePauw lead before the end of the first quarter. Quarterback Ryan O'Leary would lead his team down to the Tiger 8-yard line, but an interception on third down would halt the Lords momentum.

The defense started the second quarter on the field for the Lords. The Tigers pushed down the field inside the Kenyon red zone. The Kenyon defense would get a stop on third down and force a field goal. The Lords offense couldn't build off of the defensive stops, giving the ball back to DePauw on all three series in the quarter. The final drive of the half would lead to a Tiger touchdown, giving the home team a 31-0 lead at halftime.

Down 38-0 in the third quarter, A.J. Allen and the Lords started gaining positive yardage as they neared the DePauw red zone. Kenyon would look to find the end zone, but an interception near the goal line stopped the Lords from scoring. The Kenyon defense continued to play strong holding the Tigers again.

The Tigers would find the end zone once more in the final quarter to make the game 44-0. Kenyon started on their own 45 to make a final drive toward the goal line with 1:27 left in the game. The Lords got into the red zone, but the clock expired before they could snap the ball for a final play.

Mychael Leno led the Lords on defense with 10 tackles, nine of which were solo. On offense, Finn Murray led Kenyon with 80 yards on four receptions.

The Lords now return to campus for a homecoming game with Oberlin College on September 25th with a kickoff at noon.
