Ladies push Pioneers, but fall 3-0

MARIETTA, Ohio -- After notching a big win Friday afternoon, the Kenyon College women's volleyball team could not keep pace with Marietta College on Saturday. The Ladies fell 3-0 to the host Pioneers in their second and final match of the River City Classic.

The loss dropped the Ladies' record to 1-2 on the season, while Marietta evened out its record at 2-2. The Ladies were also scheduled to play Fransican University on Saturday, but Franciscan had to withdraw from the Classic due to issues involving COVID-19.

Although the Kenyon women were swept, they did not go away quietly. They managed to keep things close in the 25-20, 26-24, 25-22 loss.

In set one, Kenyon got a Macy Reimbold kill that pulled the Ladies within 21-20. The Pioneers, however, scored the final four points, three on kills from Mia Silva, to close out the set.

In set two, a Paige Milhon kill gave Kenyon a 23-19 advantage. Marietta called a timeout and returned to the court to score three straight. Kenyon then called timeout, but it did little to slow down the Pioneers. The teams traded a point each and then Marietta's Lauren Radalia finished things off with three consecutive kills.

Set three was very similar. With the score tied at 20-20, Marietta rattled off four straight points, this time, however, three of those points were Kenyon errors. The Ladies then rebounded and scored twice, but a final kill from Radalia gave the Pioneers the victory.

Radalia ended up with nine kills for the match and was only outdone by Silva, who had 10 kills.

Kenyon received eight kills from sophomore Lindsey Abramson and from senior Lauren Limbach, who also tacked on a team-high 10 digs. Reimbold finished with seven kills and eight digs. Jac Cousineau and Maya Sapsford each had 14 assists.
