Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lords score three in first win of the season

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Kenyon College men's soccer team shifted its offense into a higher gear Sunday and carved out its first win of the season by a 3-1 count over the host Pioneers of Transylvania University.

The Lords, now 1-1-1, scored one goal in each of their previous two games, so three on Sunday was a welcome sight. At the other end of the field, Transylvania fell to 0-2-1 following the loss.

The first goal of the game came off the foot of junior Mac Nardiello-Smith. He took possession on the Kenyon side of the field and charged all the way into Pioneer territory. He then passed to Sebastian Gaese on the right side of the box. Gaese moved the ball along to the middle of the box, where Gerardo Martinez took control, dribbled around a defender and got the ball right back to Nardiello-Smith, who blasted it home.

Less than three minutes later, Transylvania netted the equalizer on a long-distance shot from Andrew Ballard. The 1-1 score carried through halftime and a little bit beyond.

Roughly five minutes into the second half, Martinez struck again. From the right side of the Transylvania box, he lifted a pass that hit Gaese in stride. Gaese merley had to get his head on it and watched it clear the goal line.

In the game's 70th minute, the Lords scored one more. This time it was Eamon Dujakovich. He stole the ball from a Transylvania defender, dribbled about 10 yards and then fired a long shot that found the lower left corner of the Pioneers' goal.

That goal was Dujakovich's second of the season. The scores from Gaese and Nardiello-Smith were their first of the season.

Kenyon, which outshot Transylvania 23-5, will now return home for a pair of weekend games against Grove City College and Muskingum University.
