Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Lucien Kisch

Little Giants roll past Lords

GAMBIER – Facing one of the top teams in the NCAC, the Kenyon College men's basketball team put up a good fight but could not keep up with the Wabash College Little Giants, dropping the game 92-64 on Saturday. Wabash, winners of seven straight, improved to 11-3 overall, 5-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference action. Kenyon's record for the season dropped to 2-13, and 0-8 in conference play.

The Lords and Little Giants were neck and neck in the early going, with Kenyon proving that they have the ability to compete with the top teams in the conference. Miles Versa knotted the game at 19-19 with 12:06 left in the first half.

Kenyon struggled to get their shots to fall after they tied it up. The Lords went 2-12 from the field over the following eight minute stretch. Additionally, they struggled to hold onto the ball, committing five turnovers in that span as well. The game began to slip out of the Lords' hands as the Little Giants went up 40-25 with four minutes left in the half.

The Lords closed the gap slightly heading into half-time with improved shooting. However, Kenyon still faced a 49-37 deficit at the midway point. The Lords struggled to get to the free throw line, taking four foul shots to the Little Giants 12, and committed eight turnovers, double that of Wabash.

From the onset of the second half, Wabash came out firing. The Lords never found their footing, getting outscored 41-27 for the half. Kenyon shot 26 percent from the field during the second half. When the final whistle blew, the Little Giants defeated the Lords 92-64. While the final score was not close, it was a strong effort from the Lords against a top competitor with many players getting minutes and finding ways to contribute.

Miles Versa continued his run of strong performances for the Lords, putting up a team-high 14 points. Alex Boyd chipped in an efficient 12 in a team-high 27 minutes. Despite an off shooting day, Anthony Testa chipped in four assists. David Mazon led the Lords in rebounds with seven.

Kenyon will look to capture their first win of the 2022 calendar year next Saturday, January 22nd when they face off against the Allegheny College Gators on the road. The game tips off at 4 p.m.
