Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers take matchup from Lords

GAMBIER, Ohio – Meeting for the second time in as many days, the Wittenberg University Tigers defeated the Kenyon College men's basketball team, 86-69. The Lords fall to 2-19 overall and 0-14 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). The Tigers improve to 11-9 overall, 9-4 in the NCAC.

The first five minutes of the game started with a high-tempo pace, but Wittenberg held a two point lead. With 13 minutes left in the first half, Miles Versa jumped the passing lane taking the ball down the court. Versa missed the layup but made both his free throws, giving Kenyon their first lead of the game. With the game tied at 19, the Tigers went on a 13-0 before Versa ended the run on a three-point shot from deep. Wittenberg stretched their lead to a first-half high 16 but Versa converted a lay up as the clock went under 10 seconds. At the half, the Tigers held a 44-28 lead.

The second half started the same as the first, intense and back-and-forth. A pair of Tiger free throws forced a Kenyon timeout at 15:56 with Wittenberg ahead 57-39. The Lords responded with a quick 7-0 run of their own to cut into the Tiger lead. From that point on, Wittenberg stayed firmly in control. At the 6:00 mark Anthony Testa nailed a three to keep the Lords alive. In the closing minutes, Elijah Friedman hit his first three of the season to close the scoring, 86-69.

The Lords had three players in double-digit scoring highlighted by Versa's game-high 23. Testa chipped in 12 while David Mazon added in 10 of his own. Drew Valentino pulled in a career and game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.

The Lords host Denison University on Friday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Granville to take on the Big Red on Saturday.
