Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Britons pull away from Lords in thriller

GAMBIER, OH – In a game that saw physical play and eight ties, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team couldn't come back from two late goals by Albion College. The Lords outshot the Britons 56-34 in the game but Albion scored their final goal with 3:03 remaining in the game.

Both teams exchanged goals in the first quarter as the rain came down. Albion scored first with 12:39 only to have Rollins Heath tie the game a minute later. Declan Curry answered Albion's second goal to tie the game at two. The Britons score with less than 30 seconds left in the quarter. Thomas Nelson won the following faceoff and went straight to the cage where he put the ball in the back of the net. After the first quarter, the game was knotted at three a piece.

Albion opened the second quarter with a pair of goals, giving them a 5-3 lead. Weston Powell scored with five minutes left before halftime to cut the lead in half. Declan Curry converted a man-up opportunity to tie the game at five with 3:42 remaining. The Britons answered back, only to have Heath tie the game before halftime.

Opening the second half, the Lords scored two goals by Mike Matteo and Curry to secure an 8-6 lead. The lead held up after an Albion goal, but Joe Bolea put the Lords up two once again. Albion answered the Lords' opening goals with a pair near the end of the period to send the game to the fourth with an even scoreline.

After three even periods, Jack Giuffre gave Kenyon a lead once again with his goal at 12:34 but the Britons responded 30 seconds later. A goal by Albion gave them their first lead since the end of the second quarter. Heath scored his third goal of the game with 8:28 left to even the score at 11-11. The Britons pulled ahead once again with 6:32 remaining to gain a lead they wouldn't let go of. Albion added an insurance goal with 3:03 left to put themselves up two. Giuffre netted his second of the period with just under two minutes to go, bringing the Lords within one and time to work with. A turnover with 1:41 gave Albion the ball and allowed the Britons to kill the clock, sealing a back-and-forth game.

Kenyon (5-2) starts North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Mar. 26 with a 1 p.m. start at Allegheny College.
