Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Longway leads Lords to win over Gators

ALLEGHENY, PA. – Despite the weather, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team started hot and never looked back, cruising to a 0-0 win over Allegheny College. Nine different Lords scored in the win to improve to 6-2 overall and1-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

In the opening two minutes of the game, Rollins Heath and Thomas Nelson each scored a goal to put the Lords up 2-0. It wasn't long until Cameron Longway scored his 11th goal of the season, bringing the Kenyon lead to 3-0. Declan Curry ran past the entire Gator defense on his way to the goal and zipped a shot past the Allegheny goalkeeper. Allegheny held the Lords scoreless for a few minutes, but Jack Giuffre ended that with 2:53 left in the first. With just over a minute left in the opening quarter Longway scored his second of the period to put Kenyon up 6-0. In the first, the Lords held Allegheny to one shot while the Gators turned the ball over 10 times.

Longway picked up right where he left the first quarter off, scoring two more in 40 seconds. With the Lords firmly in control, Curry found Will Harrigan to stretch the lead to 9-0. Allegheny scored with 6:34 to go before halftime to prevent the shutout. At the break, Kenyon nearly scored double the goals as Allegheny had shots, 9-5.

After halftime, Longway needed only 90 seconds to find his fifth goal of the game off a pass from Giuffre. Allegheny scored on a man-up opportunity with 4:58 , but the Kenyon defense went right back to work. In the final minute, Weston Powell and Ethan Dewbrey added a goal each to put the Lords up 10.

In the fourth quarter, the Kenyon offense continued to find holes in the Gator defense. 25 seconds into the fourth, Powell scored his second of the game. With 12:56, Mike Matteo added his name to the score sheet. Seven seconds later, Nelson scored once again, putting the Lords up 15-2. Allegheny scored with 7:02 and again with two minutes left to bring the game to 15-4. That would be the closest the Gators could get in the fourth quarter as Kenyon cruised to the finish line.

The Lords travel to No. 20-ranked Denison University for a rivalry matchup on Apr. 2 at 12 p.m.
