Lords cruise to 11-2 victory over Tigers

GAMBIER, Ohio – In their first home conference game of the season, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team led from start to finish against Wittenberg University. With the win, the Lords move to 8-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Declan Curry started the scoring with 12 minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Just over 30 seconds later, Matt Pollack netted his first of the game and put the Lords up 2-0 early on. Following a Kenyon turnover, Wittenberg took the ball down the field to score and cut the Lords' lead in half. Kenyon answered right back when Jack Giuffre found Cameron Longway for his 20th goal of the season. With a man up, Weston Powell pushed the lead to 4-1 with 2:58 left in the first.

Two and a half minutes into the second quarter, Curry connected with Pollack for another Lords' goal. The Tigers brought the score to 5-2 with a man-up goal, but that would be the last goal given up by Kenyon. Longway and Chase MacCartee each scored in less than a minute, bringing the score to 7-2 at halftime.

After a quiet few minutes to open the second half, Mike Matteo scored two goals in 40 seconds for Kenyon. Just another minute later, Pollack found his third of the came off a pass from Joe Bolea. Boesel continued to be a part of the action as he found Longway with 90 seconds left in the third quarter, putting the Lords up 11-2.

In the fourth quarter, neither team found the back of the net despite Kenyon holding a 9-6 advantage in shots and a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.

In total, the Lords nearly doubled up the Tigers in shots, 48-25, while scooping up 38 ground balls. Mayo Amorello finished with 12 saves and two goals allowed in his 50 minutes in net.
