Youth leads the way in season-opening win

Box Score LIMA, Ohio -- With first-years playing in three of the team's top four spots, the Kenyon College Owls launched the spring portion of their tennis season Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory at University of Northwestern Ohio, an NAIA institution.

Making their collegiate dual-meet debuts, Eleni Lazaridou and Allaire Berl led the way for Kenyon. Lazaridou took over the top spot in the Kenyon singles and doubles lineup. She produced a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ana Cetina in singles. Prior to that, she paired with junior Eleni Dakos and chalked up a 6-1 doubles win against Cetina and Jelena Lopicic.

Berl also won both her matches, playing in the No. 2 spot in Kenyon's lineup. In singles, she knocked off Lopicic 6-2, 6-2 and in doubles she joined classmate Shadia Amado Aguad to deliver a 7-5 victory against Alizee Ripolles and Neo Mafuyeka.

Amado Aguad then went solo to post a 6-0, 6-1 win against Ana Sofia Marquez in the No. 4 singles match. Lalasa Nagireddy and Erika Pontillo rounded out the Kenyon singles results with wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Playing the NAIA format in which the results of the three doubles matches count as one team point, the Owls already earned the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. That, however, didn't stop Nagireddy and Pontillo from racking up a 6-4 win against Marquez and Dayana Morejon in the No. 3 bout.
