Lazaridou, Berl earn NCAA Championship nods

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Committee announced Wednesday evening the individuals who will compete in the singles and doubles competition of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. Among those selections were Kenyon College first-years Eleni Lazaridou and Allaire Berl.

Lazaridou was invited to participate in the Singles Championship and, along with Berl, the Doubles Championship. The Division III  Championships consists of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the Championships was based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Lazaridou and Berl have led the Owls to an 18-4 record, as well as the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular-season and tournament titles. Today, the pair joins its teammates in the first round of the NCAA Division III Team Championship, taking on Otterbein University at 2 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Before taking more swings today, Lazaridou built a 22-3 singles record this season, including a 19-1 mark playing in Kenyon's No. 1 singles spot. She's won her last 11 straight matches and is the top-ranked singles player in NCAA Division III Region V, as well as the No. 2-ranked singles player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Central Region.

In doubles play, Lazaridou and Berl enter national championship play with a perfect 10-0 record, with all 10 matches being played in Kenyon's No. 1 spot in the lineup. They are the NCAA Division III Region V No. 3-ranked pairing and also the No. 3 ranked duo in the ITA's Central Region.

Following the NCAA Team Championship, the Singles and Doubles Championships will take place May 19-22 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, which is the same site the Kenyon team played at during their spring-break schedule. The draw for the Championship brackets will be completed by the NCAA Women's Tennis Committee and will be released on Thursday, May 18 not before 1 p.m. Eastern.
