Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Owls top Quakers, ring up third straight win

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College Owls controlled Wednesday evening's men's soccer game from start to finish. The Owls overwhelmed the visiting Wilmington College Quakers, 5-1, and extended their win streak to three games.

Keying the Kenyon charge was junior Alem Duratovic, who scored two goals, and sophomore Joaquin Sanchez-Korenfeld, who served up two assists.

Duratovic opened the scoring in the game's 24th minute. After the Owls drew a foul just outside the Wilmington box, Duratovic directed his free kick around the Quakers wall of defenders and into the lower right corner of the net.

Six minutes later, sophomore Miko Warshaw doubled the lead with his first collegiate goal. The play developed off a Kenyon corner kick that a Wilmington defender headed out of the box. The ball, however, went right to the feet of Warshaw, who blasted one in from about five yards outside of the box.

Another first-time collegiate goal was registered by Kenyon first-year Robert Little. That goal crossed the line about 20 minutes into the second half. Sanchez-Korenfeld, who possessed the ball in the right side of the box, booted a low crossing pass that Little redirected past Wilmington goalkeeper Gabriel Swaisgood.

Wilmington avoided the shutout with a goal from Jackson Beske in the 72nd minute, but Kenyon needed just five more minutes of play to up its advantage to 4-1. This time Sanchez-Korenfeld slotted a forward pass to Duratovic, who rang up his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Capping off the scoring in the game's 83rd minute, Ben Lantz gathered in a loose ball, dribbled forward a few yards and, before reaching the Wilmington box, took his shot, which was a low liner that found its mark inside the left post.

Kenyon outshot Wilmington 12-8 and held possession around 55 percent of the game.

Swaisgood wound up making three saves for Wilmington (0-5-0), while Jack Pedreschi needed to make just a pair of saves for the Owls (3-2-0).
