Owls open season with win at annual relay event

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team tore the lid off the 2024-25 season and began its NCAA Division III title defense by hosting, and winning, the annual Kenyon Relays, held Saturday at Steen Aquatics Center.

The Kenyon women won all nine of the swimming relay events and also had a couple of top-five finishes in the two diving events. Overall, the Owls scored 119 points to place first in the five-team field. Case Western Reserve University was second with 85 points and The College of Wooster was third with 68 points. Ohio Wesleyan University and Wittenberg University finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Seven different Kenyon swimmers notched two or more event wins and that group was led by senior Sydney Geboy, who piled up five victories. She joined Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault, Jennah Fadely and Kelsey Van Eldik to start the afternoon with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.60). Geboy also swam a leg on the winning 200-yard backstroke relay (1:47.52), the 500-yard crescendo relay (4:36.84), the 200-yard butterfly relay (1:44.29), and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.19).

Fadely, a senior, and Van Eldik, a first-year, both finished the day with four wins. They swam together on the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard breaststroke relay (1:59.84) and the 400-yard individual medley relay (4:00.89). Fadely picked up her other win in the 200-yard butterfly relay, while Van Eldik went on to swim a leg on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.

Three-time winners for the Owls included Torrecillas-Jouault, a junior, Gwen Eisenbeis, also a junior, and Gabrielle Wei, a senior.

Sophomore Bengisu Caymaz won two events and seven other Kenyon swimmers claimed one event win.

In the diving well, Kenyon was led by first-year Nadia Milovich, who placed third on the one-meter board, logging a score of 252.00. On the three-meter board, she was also Kenyon's top finisher, taking fourth with a score of 248.30.

The Owls now have a couple weeks away from competition to continue their focus on practice. Their next meet will be a home dual against Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, November 8.
