Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon handles Albion to remain undefeated

GAMBIER, Ohio – While the weather from The Field at Benson Bowl may have been chilly on Wednesday afternoon, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team's offense was anything but, taking on the Albion College Britons for the squad's fourth contest of the season.

The Owls controlled the game from the opening faceoff as the offense put up a season-high 16 goals en route to a comfortable 16-6 win against the Brits.

Just 10 seconds into the game, Gavin Gumucio opened up the scoring after Thomas Nelson won the draw, charged down the field, and found Mike Kapral who made the easy dish to Gumucio. Within the next two minutes, the Owls tacked on three more goals, as Tanner Lewis, David Chintala, and Rowan Goldin all got involved as Kenyon surged to a 4-0 lead with 13:08 left in the opening quarter.

Not to be outdone, over the first quarter, Kenyon would score for more goals, with Gamucio and Chintala added to their stats while Kapral and Rollins Heath each tallying their first of the day. After 15 minutes, the Owls jumped out to an 8-0 lead.

The lead would swell to 10-0 as Goldin and Lewis tacked on two more before Albion would score two unanswered goals with 5:26 to play in the half, but Chintala and Cameron Longway would restore the double-digit lead to end the first half 12-2.

The Owls did not let up on the defensive side of the ball in the second half, as Adam Hall had six saves in the third out of 14 on the day, a season-high for the sophomore keeper. The Kenyon defensive unit overall caused a season-high eight turnovers and kept Albion's two leading scorers to one goal apiece. On the offensive side, the Owls would ultimately expand the lead to 11 goals after Lewis and Hill Carter found the back of the net to give the Owls a 14-3 lead after three.

Longway and Luke Riney capped off a season-best offensive performance for Kenyon that saw highs in goals (16), assists (9), and shots (55), along with a commanding 57 ground balls, another season-best mark. Lewis and Chintala were tied atop the stat sheet with three goals each, with Lewis adding an assist for a game-high four points. Nelson was nearly perfect at the faceoff X this afternoon, going 19-of-21 (90.4 percent) while scooping up a team-high 12 ground balls.

Kenyon remains perfect on the season at 4-0, and will be back in action on Saturday March 2 to take on the Centre College Colonels (3-0) at 1:00 pm from Gambier.
