Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Owls overpower Little Giants for first NCAC win

GAMBIER, Ohio – There was no shortage of offense this afternoon as the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team hosted Wabash College for the team's first home North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup from The Field at Benson Bowl this Saturday afternoon.

The Owls controlled the game on both sides of the field and set season-highs in multiple categories en route to a 23-4 victory to move to 1-1 in the conference.

Although Wabash (7-2, 0-1 NCAC) got the game's first goal, Kenyon (7-4, 1-1 NCAC) fired back to take a 3-1 lead after one, and outdid its offensive output each quarter, scoring three, five, seven, and eight goals in each respective period. Thomas Nelson started the scoring for the Owls followed by Jack McCarren and Chase MacCartee

MacCartee and first-year Miles Malawer got involved to open the second quarter and headlined the offensive outing, each scoring hat tricks in a contest that saw season highs in points (33), goals (23), shots (65), and shots on goal (38) for the home team. It's the highest single-game goal total for Kenyon since April 2022, when the Owls also defeated the Little Giants 25-1.

Defensively, Kenyon held Wabash attackmen Christian Dybedock and Quinn Fitzgerald to just one goal, an impressive feat considering that each ranked inside the top 10 in NCAC points per game entering the day. The Owls caused a season-high 16 turnovers and shut down a Little Giants' offense which averaged nearly 15 goals per game on the season.

After building a 15-3 lead after three quarters, the Owls got some fresh faces in the game and on the stat sheet, as 14 different players found the back of the net. McCarren, Tanner Lewis, Rollins Heath, Jack Marshall and Teddy Oliver scored two goals each, while David Chintala made his presence felt with one goal and a career-high three assists.

Thomas Nelson went 13-for-16 (81.3 percent from the faceoff dot, while Will Jordan went 6-of-8 (75 percent) and Chris Worton won 5-of-6 (83 percent).

Four Owls split goalkeeping duties, as Adam Hall led the way with five saves in the start. Ryan Matarese entered in relief, followed by Jac Dimaculangan and Jack McClellan, who added two saves and locked up the 23-4 victory.

Kenyon moves to 7-4 on the season and 1-1 in the NCAC. The Owls take the upcoming weekend off, but return to action on Tuesday, April 9 to take on the Oberlin College Yeomen at 4:00 pm from The Field at Benson Bowl.
