KSAAC earns Community Partner Award

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities held its annual awards luncheon on Wednesday afternoon from Ariel Arena on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The Kenyon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (KSAAC) received the Community Partner Award.

The Community Partner Award recognizes individuals and organizations that work diligently to create partnerships and alliances within Knox County, while also creating an inclusive culture and environment for everyone to live, work and grow.

KSAAC has partnered with Special Olympics for more than five years to provide volunteers and support to athletes who use the Lowry Center to practice and compete. The group hosts basketball, track and field, bocce practices, swim meets, regional basketball skills championships, and much more. Student-athletes in KSAAC go above and beyond to teach skills and reach participants on an impactful level, making meaningful relationships along the way. KSAAC members Marko Krtinic and Sydney Geboy, from the Kenyon College swimming and diving team, were present to accept the award.

"We've been so grateful for the opportunity to get involved with the Knox County community and build so many relationships through Special Olympics," said Geboy. "The athletes have learned from us and we've equally learned so much from them, and it's just been wonderful."

The Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities was established as the local government agency charged with the responsibility to serve and protect individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The Kenyon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (KSAAC) is comprised of student-athletes in every varsity sport and works to enhance the student-athlete experience at Kenyon College by serving as an avenue through which the Owls can make their unique voices heard on campus and beyond. KSAAC also strives to provide opportunities for student-athletes to serve in leadership roles, practice advocacy, and engage more deeply with athletics to ensure the most fulfilling and impactful college experience possible.
