Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Doubles results are Kenyon’s downfall

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Looking to upend the No. 26-ranked Sagehens from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, the No. 31-ranked Kenyon College men's tennis team got off on the wrong foot Friday. The Owls were defeated in all three doubles matches and came out on the wrong side of a 6-3 final score.

Kenyon (3-3) dropped the No. 1 and the No. 3 doubles matches by identical 8-3 scores. In the No. 2 match, Rishil Kondapaneni and Eric Zhang pushed Owen Kelley and Sam English to the edge, but were defeated 8-7.

When the singles matches rolled out, the competition evened up, with each team winning three. For Kenyon, those wins came from Paulo Pocasangre Kreling, Kondapaneni and Eliezer Gonzalez. Pocasangre Kreling rallied for a 3-6, 6-5, 6-1 win against Eshaan Lumba in the No. 1 match, while Kondapaneni produced a 7-6, 6-2 victory against Matthew Feng at No. 2. Gonzalez, who won his first set against English, ended up taking the No. 3 match by retirement.

The team win evened out Pomona-Pitzer's record at 4-4.

Kenyon will try to climb above the .500 mark Saturday, when it takes on No. 7-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
