Kenyon crafts another conference win

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Playing its fourth match in the last five days, the Kenyon College men's tennis team put aside any notion of fatigue and rolled to an 8-1 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win over The College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Sunday afternoon at VandenBerg Courts.

The result boosted the No. 30-ranked Owls to 10-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play. On the other side of the net, Wooster slid to 6-9 overall and 0-4 in NCAC action.

Kenyon's usual pairings at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles came through with the match's first two points. Gianluca Bocanegra and Paulo Pocasangre Kreling crafted an 8-3 win at No. 1, playing against Jay Dixit and Namit Misra. Just before they finished that match, Alejandro Gonzalez and Eliezer Gonzalez teamed up for an 8-4 win against Shivam Dewan and Arnav Yadav in the No. 2 match.

At No. 3 doubles, Eric Zhang and Christophe Leblanc posted an 8-6 win against Anthony Vanoyen and Alexander Anikeeff.

With Rishil Kondapaneni getting the day off and Alejandro Gonzalez not playing a solo match, the Owls' singles lineup looked a bit different, but still produced positive results.

Zhang, playing at No. 5 singles, coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Misra, while, at No. 1 singles, the match was clinched for Kenyon as Pocasangre Kreling won by retirement and ran the team score to 5-0.

Leblanc then added a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Max Stratford at No. 6.

Down 6-0, Wooster tallied its lone point, winning at No. 3. Kenyon, however, countered with Rakkan Audeh's 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Dewan at No. 4 and Bocanegra's 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win against VanOyen at No. 2.

Kenyon has just two more regular-season matches left on its schedule and the next one is slated for Saturday, at home, against DePauw University.
