Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Owls tame Tigers, extend win streak to four

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's tennis team hosted its penultimate regular season conference match on Saturday afternoon, taking on the DePauw University Tigers from the VandenBerg Courts for a brisk North Coast Athletic Conference dual.

The Owls easily extended its win streak to four matches, picking up the 8-1 victory and dealing DePauw its first conference loss of the season.

Just 28 minutes into doubles play, the No. 3 duo of Christophe Leblanc and Alejandro Gonzalez picked up Kenyon's first point of the day, an 8-0 victory. Nearly an hour after that, Eliezer Gonzalez and Paulo Pocasangre Kreling won 8-7 (7-2) to grab the Owls' second doubles win, and although the No. 1 pairing of Rishil Kondapaneni and Eric Zhang fell 8-4, the team was in a great position heading into singles.

Kondapaneni bounced back from the No. 1 doubles loss and made quick work of his opponent in the No. 2 singles spot, taking the 6-0, 6-2 win. Similarly, Pocasangre Kreling had a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 slot, but the Owls were not done there.

In the No. 3 flight, A. Gonzalez's two-set victory was highlighted by a 7-6 (7-3) win in the first set, before taking the second 6-1. No. 4 Gianluca Bocanegra and No. 6 Rakkan Audeh's matches each finished up next, turning in 7-5, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-3 wins respectively. DePauw's only singles set win came in the No. 5 flight against E. Gonzalez, but the sophomore came back with 6-4 and 1-0 (10-3) wins to cap Kenyon's sweep of the singles matches and capture the 8-1 win.

With the win, the Owls are now tied with the Tigers for second in the NCAC standings, as each team has one more conference match to play.

Kenyon's record improves to 11-7 overall and 5-1 in the NCAC. The Owls will host Wabash College in the team's conference finale on Sunday, April 21 at 10 am from Gambier.
