Kenyon honors senior class with sweep of Wabash

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's tennis team hosted its final regular season match on Sunday morning, as the Wabash College Little Giant came to town in a North Coast Athletic Conference tilt.

The Owls took control from the first doubles match and never let up, sweeping both doubles and singles contests en route to a 9-0 win to close the regular season conference schedule on a five-game win streak.

Before the dual, the team recognized the accomplishments and contributions of its 2024 senior class, which includes Harshal Rukhaiyar from Helsinki, Finland.

The No. 2 and No. 3 matches gave way to Kenyon's first points of the day, as each squad bested their opponents in less than 30 minutes. Rishil Kondapaneni and Alejandro Gonzalez won the No. 3 flight 8-2, while the No. 2 duo of Eric Zhang and Eliezer Gonzalez pulled out an 8-1 winner. Finally, the No. 1 pairing of Paulo Pocasnagre Kreling and Rukhaiyar dispatched the Wabash team 8-4.

Much of the same dominance ensued in the singles matches, as all Owls victories came in two sets. Rakkan Audeh finished first in the No. 5 flight with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Kondapaneni finished one minute later in the No. 2 slot, winning 6-2, 6-2, while Zhang took care of business with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the fourth flight.

Rukhaiyar was up next in the No. 6 matchup, winning 6-3 in the first set and taking a commanding 6-1 win in the second. In the No. 1 slot, Pocasangre Kreling won tidily at 6-2, 6-2, while Gonzalez capped off the sweep in the No. 3 pairing, winning 6-1, 6-2.

The win is Kenyon's fifth in a row and moves the team's record to 12-7 overall and 6-1 in the conference. The Owls now sit solo second in the NCAC and will prepare for the conference tournament, starting Friday, April 26.
