Owls’ youth shines in opening Invitational

Box Score

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team cracked open the 2024-25 season this weekend, hosting the two-day Kenyon Invitational. The young players on the Owls' rooster took full advantage of the opportunity and quickly proved themselves in their first collegiate competition.

A group of four first-years provided the highlights for the Owls. Leading the way was Bridgette Kelly, who put together a combined, team-best 5-1 record, as she went 2-1 in singles play and a perfect 3-0 in doubles action. Also posting five wins over the weekend was Maggie Shope, a first-year walk-on who racked up a 3-0 singles mark and a 2-2 doubles mark.

Bolstering the first-years' successful run were Elizabeth Ackerman and Clare Hudson. Ackerman went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play, while Hudson, who only played doubles matches, went undefeated in three contests.

As a team, Kenyon fared very well in doubles, going 9-4. In singles matches, the Owls broke even, at 10-10.

Ackerman's 2-1 record in doubles play was matched by three other teammates, including junior Shadia Amado Aguad, sophomore Ana Brand and Hana Nouaime, another member of Kenyon's first-year class.

Kenyon has just one more event left on its fall schedule and that's the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region Championship, which will take place beginning September 27 at Kalamazoo College.
