Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Duratovic delivers in offensive outbreak

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Coming off two straight ties in its most recent matches, the Kenyon College men's soccer team (4-0-2) thoroughly dominated Anderson University (2-4-1) by a score of 4-1 on a hot Wednesday afternoon at Mavec Field. The Owls, ranked fourth in NCAA Division III according to the United Soccer Coaches' most recent poll, were led by an exceptional three-goal performance from Alem Duratovic

Duratovic, a senior, opened up the scoring for the Owls with a phenomenal goal in the seventh minute. The play began with Isaac Cortez lofting a corner kick to the leaping head of Matt Nguyen, who redirected the ball to Duratovic. Duratovic gained possession by tapping the ball up to himself and then launched an acrobatic, highlight reel, bicycle kick into the back of the net.

Anderson managed to tie the score up 1-1 in the 31st minute with a goal coming off the foot of Dalton Grubbs. The score remained tied heading into the half, though the Owls had out-shot the Ravens, 7-4, and took seven corner kicks compared to zero for Anderson.

When the initial second-half whistle was blown, Duratovic wasted no time in striking again. He regained the lead for the Owls by scoring his second goal of the evening in the 50th minute. Gerardo Martinez kicked the ball across the pitch to the sprinting Duratovic who dove forward to head the ball into the back left corner of the net.

Senior Jacob Lazarus continued his strong play from Kenyon's previous game, in which he scored the game-tying goal, by scoring the third Owls' goal of this match in the 54th minute. The goal came off an assist from Duratovic, and it gave Kenyon a commanding lead. However, the Owls were not done yet.

About three minutes after the goal by Lazarus, Duratovic completed a remarkable feat by scoring his third goal of the contest -- the third hat trick of his career. Though, even more impressive than that, he moved up to fourth place in the Kenyon all-time scoring list with 44 career goals and moved to sixth place with 93 career points.

The Owls finished the game with 20 shots, eight of which were on goal, compared to sevens shots for Anderson, only three of which were on goal.

The Owls will play their next match on the road in Indiana against Trine University this Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
