Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Owls score twice, settle for tie with Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday night to take on Witternberg University, still searching for its first North Coast Athletic Conference win of the season.

Despite scoring the first goal of the game and dominating the shot total, the Owls gave up two quick goals around halftime. Although Kenyon scored the equalizer shortly after, the Tigers defense did not break in the end, setting the 2-2 final.

The Owls' first opportunity of the game came from Danny Kankham in the tenth minute, followed by two consecutive shots by Ethan Castaneda in the 19th and 22nd minute, the latter of which leading to the team's first goal of the day.

Castaneda's shot was collected by Lucas de Alarcon, who netted his first goal of the season and the second of his career to give Kenyon the early lead.

After another strong scoring chance from Justin Buchwalter in the 23rd minute, Wittenberg pulled even in the 33rd minute, a score which would hold until the half.

Collin LaVeck, who scored the Tigers' first goal, came back in the 49th minute with his second, giving his team a 2-1 lead at home. Luckily for Kenyon, first-year Danny Kankam notched the first goal of his collegiate career just 48 seconds later to tie the game at two.

Wittenberg started on a stretch that gave the team its best two chances of the half to grow the lead in the next ten minutes, but both were denied by Dominic Pratt, who made three saves.

Grant Blake added a strong opportunity in the 69th minute, followed by Joey Nigro in the 89th minute to try and sneak away with the win, but both were denied by Aidan Rice, who made six saves on the evening.

For the game, Kenyon outshot Wittenberg 17-5, holding an 8-5 edge in shots on goal and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Owls had eleven shots in the final 45 minutes, but could not convert into goals, resulting in the draw and one point in the conference rankings.

Kenyon's record moves to 4-3-5 on the season and 0-2-1 in conference. Up next, Kenyon will host John Caroll at Mavec Field at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 to celebrate the 2026 senior class.
