Van Eldik tabbed NCAC Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND -- Kenyon College sophomore Kelsey Van Eldik turned in some impressive results during last week's Total Performance Invitational. Based on those results, the North Coast Athletic Conference announced Tuesday that it selected Van Eldik as its Athlete of the Week for women's swimming and diving.

During the Invitational, Van Eldik, a native of Australia, swept the breaststroke competitions. On Friday, she won the 100-yard race in 1:01.16 and, on Saturday, she took the 200-yard race in 2:14.52. Both those times cleared the NCAA 'B' cuts. Her prelim time in the 100-yard race (1:01.08) and her final time in the 200-yard race were both personal records and they both rank as the top time in NCAA Division III to this point in the season.

Van Eldik also tallied a second-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in with a personal record and NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:03.64.

In relay competition, she swam a leg on Kenyon's winning 200-yard and 400-yard medley teams. The 200-yard relay team clocked in at 1:41.77, the third-fastest time in NCAA Division III, and the 400-yard relay team had a time of 3:41.81, the top time in Division III.

Before Van Eldik and the rest of the Kenyon team head toward winter break, they have one more dual meet on their schedule. That meet will take place Saturday, December 6 at Kenyon, as the Owls host Ohio Wesleyan University beginning at 11 a.m.
