Owls beat Big Red in NCAC road test

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Competing against a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponent for the second night in a row, the Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team made the short trip to Denison University on Saturday morning for its penultimate conference dual of the season.

The Owls totaled nine victories for the day with solid performances all around, coasting to a 170-130 victory over the Big Red as Molly Haag, Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault and Gwen Eisenbeis each added two victories and combined for one more.

Kenyon's first win of the day came in the 1000 freestyle, where Nora Lee Brown cruised to a 10:27.34 time, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than the next finisher. Nina Shuerer was not far behind, taking third in the event with a 10:49.56 mark.

Haag captured another win in the next event, the 200 freestyle. She touched the wall in 1:53.66, beating a crowded field by over two seconds. Eisenbeis continued the Owls' dominance in the third individual event of the day, winning the 100 backstroke in 56.79,

One event later, Kelsey Van Eldik took home the win in the 100 breaststroke, a 1:03.70 time that was good enough for an NCAA 'B' cut.

Ashlyn Widmer added a strong performance in the 400 individual medley, taking second with a 4:35.01 time.

Kenyon capped off the swimming events with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, where the 'A' team of Eisenbeis, Torrecillas-Jouault, Haag and Kate Bogan combined for a 1:35.25 time,

Over in the diving area, the Owls took second, third and fourth in the three meter event, with Lucy Cassell-Kelley leading the way at 223.43 points. Bryn Tiernan was next to finish, totalling 199.80 score while Nadia Milovich ended at a 191.10 mark.

In the one meter, Cassell-Kelley again led Kenyon with a 219.23 mark, good enough for second place. Milovich took third with a 217.43 score, and Tiernan rounded out the Kenyon trio with 173.18 points.
