Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Owls take care of Quakers before road trip

GAMBIER, Ohio – Playing in its final home game of 2025 before a four game road trip, the Kenyon College men's basketball team faced off against Earlham College on Saturday afternoon from Tomsich Arena.

The Owls found a lead early in the contest and never let up, thwarting any Quaker comeback attempts en route to a 60-54 win.

Both teams shot well to start the game, but it was Kenyon who took the narrow edge through the first five minutes. Mariuz Mazeika led the Owls with four points as the team shot 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from the field, while a trio of Nicholas Graves, Nick Nelson and Jackson Burke each found twine, leading 10-8 early.

The Owls offense turned the pressure up a notch later in the half, rallying for a 19-11 run while shooting 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from the field and 100 percent from beyond the arc. Jack Corrigan Conaty and Ashton Bjerke combined for 11 points in the run, each sinking a triple and a layup to give Kenyon a 29-19 advantage with five minutes to play in the first half.

To close the first, Earlham sparked a 6-2 run to cut into the lead, but after 20 minutes the Owls were up 31-25.

Kenyon expanded its lead to nine to open the second half, thanks to a small 6-3 run led by Nicholas Graves with four points. Nick Nelson chipped in five points as the half reached the midpoint, with Bjerke and Corrigan Conaty each burying a three. With 10 minutes to play, the Owls were up 48-40.

As much as the Quakers tried to break into the Owls lead, Kenyon would not let them anywhere less than five points down the stretch, with Nelson continuing to find the basket with supplemental points from Burke and Corrigan Conaty to build a 58-47 lead with four minutes to play.

Earlham managed to bring the deficit to four points with 22 seconds remaining in the middle of a 7-2 run to close the game, but Kenyon was able to fend off the visitors and close out a 60-54 win for the team's sixth win of the season.

Nelson had 13 points to lead the team in scoring, while leading the team with three assists and two steals. Mazeika and Corrigan Conaty joined the senior in double figures, each scoring 10 en route to a career high from Corrigan Conaty.

Kenyon's record improves to 6-3 on the season. The Owls will head to Lexington, Virginia after the holiday to play in the Washington and Lee tournament, tipping off at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29 against Marywood University.
