Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Kenyon sweeps Hornets, Cardinals in home dual

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's tennis team was firing on all cylinders Saturday afternoon as the team hosted its first officially scored matches of the season, taking on Kalamazoo College and Otterbein University respectively in a dual match.

The Owls made quick work of both teams, firing 7-0 sweeps of the Hornets and the Cardinals to move to 2-0 on the young season without dropping a match.

In the first match against the Hornets, the third doubles team of Joshua Finkle and Jay Dixit were first to finish, as the pair turned out a 6-2 victory in just 29 minutes. The first team of Paulo Pocasangre Kreling and Alejandro Gonzalez were not far behind, winning 6-3 in their match in 37 minutes while Rishil Kondapaneni and Eric Zhang fought out a 6-4 victory.

The top pair of Pocasangre Kreling and Gonzalez fared just as well in the singles matches, as they each cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins in the number one and two flights respectively.

Juozas Cioladis lost one game in his first set, but otherwise dominated in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in the number four flight.

Kondapaneni and Rakkan Audeh each fell in their opening set 6-3, but were each able to come from behind and take the number three and six singles flights respectively. Kondapaneni swept the second set 6-0 before coming out on top in the final match in a nearly three hour marathon.

Audeh was met with a little more resistance, winning the second set 6-4 before ultimately taking the third as well to keep Kenyon undefeated on the day.

After a brief break, it was the Cardinals turn to try and top the Owls in the second match of the day.

The first doubles team of Pocasangre Kreling and Gonzalez again came away with a quick winner, this time taking the match 6-1. The second team of Dixit and Cioladis also turned out a 6-1 victory, while Christophe Leblanc and Rohan Sriram teamed up on the third flight and took down their opponent 6-2.

In similar fashion to the first match of the afternoon, Pocasangre Kreling and Gonzalez each downed their opponents without much resistance, as Gonzalez took a 6-0, 6-0 win to remain unbeaten in singles games for the day while Pocasangre Kreling won 6-0, 6-2.

Leblanc finished in just over 45 minutes with a clean 6-1, 6-2 victory in the sixth flight while Zhang was not far behind, taking a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the fourth. Sriram wrapped up in 59 minutes and won 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth slot, and Dixit made a 6-3, 6-0 match win in the third set to wrap up a 7-0, 7-0 day for the Owls.

Kenyon's record moves to 2-0 to start the season. The Owls will return to the courts on Saturday, February 22 and travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to take on Carnegie Mellon University at 4:00 pm.
