Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Owls soar to victory over Yellow Jackets

GAMBIER, Ohio -- In freezing conditions that tested both teams' resilience, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team continued its perfect start to the season with a commanding 13-7 home victory over Baldwin Wallace University. The Wednesday afternoon win propelled the Owls to an impressive 3-0 start for the seventh straight season.

Junior midfielder Mike Kapral delivered a standout performance, netting four crucial goals that energized both teammates and fans alike.

Another notable Kenyon performance was achieved by senior Thomas Nelson, who secured 12 faceoff wins, bringing his career total to an astounding 706. Nelson, who already owns the Kenyon program career record for faceoff wins, now sets his sights on North Coast Athletic Conference history. With each draw, he inches closer to the conference record of 744 established by Oberlin College's Kinori Rosnow (2014-17).

Wednesday's statistics tell the story of a well-executed team performance for the Owls. The Kenyon men outshot Baldwin Wallace, 60-29, demonstrating their offensive firepower and aggressive game plan. The Owls' efficiency was equally impressive, with 27 shots on goal compared to their opponent's 14.

The victory wasn't just about offensive production. Defensively, Kenyon showed discipline and coordination, forcing 23 turnovers and seven failed clears, while goalkeeper Adam Hall recorded seven saves to secure the win.

Kapral scored his first goal in the first quarter. That tally was registered in a man-up situation and it gave Kenyon a 3-1 lead. Four different goal scorers found twine in the second quarter, as the Owls went into the break with a 7-2 advantage.

That five-goal margin was Kenyon's best until the final five minutes of the game, when Kapral scored twice to extend the lead to six and then Miles Malawer scored to push it to seven. In between the half and the fourth quarter, both teams scored twice in the third frame.

In addition to Kapral's four goals, the Owls got two each from Gavin Gumucio, Jack McCarren, and Malawer, who matched Kapral's four-point output by tacking on two assists to his stat line.

The Owls' balanced attack—featuring multiple goal scorers and assists—showcases a team that doesn't rely on individual brilliance, but thrives through collective excellence.

The Owls return to action Sunday, February 23rd, as they host Adrian College at 1 p.m. at the Field at Benson Bowl.
