Game Recap: Baseball |

Owls fall to Shoremen, Bullets in doubleheader

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – For the only time during its spring break trip to Florida to start the 2025 season, the Kenyon College baseball team had a double-header against two different teams on Monday, taking on Washington College and Gettysburg College in the Sunshine State.

Despite leading in game two with the opportunity to split, the Owls fell to Washington College 10-4 and Gettysburg College 12-6.

In game one against Washington College, the Shoremen got on the board first, posting a four-spot in the top of the second inning. Besides that inning, starting pitcher Chris Cannuscio was fairly solid from the bump, firing 4.2 innings with five earned runs.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kenyon found its first run of the day. Niko Price roped a single up the middle and made his way into scoring position by way of a Luke Meister walk. Ben Resnick capitalized with an RBI single, but that was all the Shoremen allowed in the inning.

Washington College expanded its lead in the next half inning, dropping four more runs in the fifth to build an 8-1 lead and two more in the sixth to set the score 10-1. The Owls next spurt of offense came in the seventh inning, where Nate Rosen walked and Edwin Groff homered to left for two more runs. Price scored again in the eighth after a double and two wild pitches sent him home, but it wasn't enough, as the Shoremen took the game 10-4.

Against Gettysburg, the Owls jumped out to a substantial lead, scoring five runs in four innings. Rosen got things started with a walk, and Trey Kent-Landrum doubled to put men on second and third. Groff knocked in both of them on the next at bat to give Kenyon an early advantage.

Price singled through the left side of the infield to score Groff in the third inning, while Tyler Nee found the same spot to score Parker Gibbons two batters later. Gibbons would return the favor in the next inning, also singling through the left side to score Kent-Landrum to open up a 5-0 lead.

Although down, the Bullets proved not to be out. Griffin Jackson got the start and was very solid through three innings while adding two strikeouts, he was pulled after allowing three runs in the bottom of the fourth. After that, Gettysburg could not be denied, adding five more runs to reclaim the lead at 8-5, and tacked on two more to open up a 10-5 advantage, fully flipping the Owls five run lead.

Kenyon was held scoreless until the eighth inning, where Colin Shue batted in Bradley Blasberg, but two more Bullets runs in the bottom of the eighth cemented the 12-6 loss.

For the day, Gibbons led all batters with six hits, while Price was not far behind with five. Groff tallied two RBI each game to lead Kenyon on the scoreboard.

The Owls drop to 2-7 on the season. Up next, Kenyon is back with a standard doubleheader tomorrow against Monmouth College, with games starting at 1:30 and 4:30 pm.
