Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon downs Wabash for first conference win

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – After amassing a 5-3 record in the first eight games of non-conference play, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team began its North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schedule on Saturday afternoon against Wabash College on the road.

Fueled by stellar performances on both sides of the ball, the Owls defeated the Little Giants 11-2 to pick up the team's first conference win and get back in the win column.

Rollins Heath got Kenyon's day started just over a minute into the contest to put his team up 1-0 with an assist from David Chintala at 13:52. The next three Owls goals were tallied by Mike Kapral for his team leading 17th, 18th, and 19th goals for the season through the end of the first quarter and into 7:41 in the second.

After Wabash found the back of the net for its first score of the afternoon, Kenyon fired off another run to end the opening half. Chintala, Gavin Gumucio and Hill Carter all scored within two minutes of each other to end the first 30 minutes up 7-1.

In the third quarter, Heath nailed his second goal of the game at 10:32 to mark the only scoring of the period. The Owls added three more goals in the final quarter, all scored by David Chintala. The Little Giants scored once more with 5:00 remaining in the game, but it was nowhere near enough to catch Kenyon, who took the game 11-2.

Chintala led all players with four goals and two assists. Kapral and Heath finished second with three points each. On the defensive side of the ball, Henry Moderelli headlined the efforts with two caused turnovers, while five other Owls added one.

Thomas Nelson turned in a great day on the faceoff dot, winning 11-of-13 (84.6 percent) and hauling in a team high ground balls. Adam Hall was rock solid in the cage, putting in 58 minutes of work and recording 10 saves and letting in one goal.

Kenyon will return to Gambier for its first home game since February 23, taking on DePauw University at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 29 from the Field at Benson Bowl.
