Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team took on an NCAA Division II opponent on Thursday afternoon, toeing the line against the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.). The Owls and Cougars went back and forth in doubles, but Kenyon prevailed and rode the momentum to a smooth 7-0 sweep.
Kenyon improved to 2-3 overall this season after picking up the first win of their spring break action at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The dual opened with a tightly contested doubles slate, and both teams found success.
Shadia Amado Aguad and Clare Hudson handled their No. 2 doubles matchup with a strong 6-1 win, but Sioux Falls matched the result with a 6-1 victory of their own over Lalasa Nagireddy and Ana Brand in the No. 3 flight. That put even more pressure on the top doubles duos, and Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime were up for the challenge. The Owls took down USF's top duo by a score of 6-4, clinching the doubles point for Kenyon.
After battling in doubles, singles went much smoother for the Owls. Kenyon swept all six matches in straight sets, and the Owls did not allow a Sioux Falls player to win more than three games in any set.
Nouaime and Nagireddy notched a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins in the Nos. 5 and 6 spots, respectively. Hudson had nearly as much success at No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-1. The top of Kenyon's lineup kept it rolling, with both Lazaridou and Amado Aguad winning while conceding just three games apiece. Lazaridou won 6-0, 6-3 in the top flight, while Amado Aguad prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Brand's result at No. 2 wrapped up the 7-0 shutout as the sophomore won 6-2, 6-2.
Up next, the Owls have a quick turnaround as the team takes on Allegheny College in about 15 hours. The Owls and Gators are scheduled to face off at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7.
