Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon handles Hiram in record-setting fashion

HIRAM, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team was clicking in every part of the field on Saturday afternoon's road North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contest against Hiram College, controlling the game from the opening faceoff.

Six different Owls scored hat tricks in a 29-goal, 23-assist outburst, taking the game 29-2 and breaking or meeting several different program records in the process.

Kenyon had a fantastic first half to say the least, firing off 22 goals while allowing none on the other end. 15 goal scorers populated the Owls stat sheet, with David Chintala and Mike Kapral leading the way with three apiece, while Henry Powell, Antonio Miguens, and Henry Wooster each scored two.

Also finding the back of the net in the first half were Miles Malawer, Rollins Heath, Gavin Gumucio, Sean Ronaldson, Thomas Nelson, Gavin Collins, Kyle Becker, Cameron Longway, Michael Matlow, and Jack Levitt. Kenyon outshot Hiram 49-9 in the opening 30 minutes, while Adam Hall and Jac Dimaculangan split duties in the cage, making three saves combined.

Hiram broke through after halftime, scoring twice in the third. Kenyon's lone tally came from Becker, who gave the Owls a 23-2 lead heading into the fourth. Six more goals came in the final frame, led by Collins with two to lock down the historic win.

Becker led the team with seven points on three goals and four assists, while Miguens was not far behind with three goals and three assists. Levitt (14) and Nelson (10) combined for 24 ground balls and went a perfect 35-of-35 from the faceoff dot, hitting the 1.000 win percentage for the second time in program history and tying the program record for most faceoff wins in a game.

Kenyon's 23 assists set a new program record which has stood since 2000. The Owls also registered 52 total points for the afternoon, which tied for second-most in program history, last occurring against Oberlin in 2000. The team's 29 goals also matches the third-most goals in a contest in program history.

Kenyon is back on the field on Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 pm to take on The College of Wooster from The Field at Benson Bowl in Gambier.
