Two Owls named to CSC Academic All-District Team

GAMBIER, Ohio -- College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the organization's 2024-25 Men's Tennis Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, and the Kenyon College men's tennis team had two student-athletes tabbed for the award. Alejandro Gonzalez and Paulo Pocasangre Kreling earned the honors, and both Owls are first-time honorees.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete had to be a key contributor who participated in at least 70 percent of the team's duals this season. The student-athlete had to be on the team's active roster for at least two years and, most importantly, had to possess at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

Gonzalez, who is yet to declare a major, has had a stellar start to his Kenyon career. After a first-year season that saw him go 15-4 overall in singles play, Gonzalez stepped up as a sophomore, playing toward the top of the lineup and racking up a team-high 21 singles wins. Overall, Gonzalez was 21-6 in singles, including a 19-3 record in duals, and he did most of his damage at No. 2, where he was 15-2 this season. For his efforts, the Monterrey, Mexico, native was named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) First Team for both singles and doubles.

Pocasangre Kreling, a double major in both psychology and Italian, also made a big jump this year. The junior improved his overall singles wins by five without adding any losses, going 20-8 overall and 18-4 in dual play this season. Pocasangre Kreling locked down the No. 1 spot in Kenyon's lineup, going 17-4 in the first flight. The Guacimo, Costa Rica, native was also named to the All-NCAC First Team for both singles and doubles, and he will represent the Owls in the upcoming singles bracket at the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship.

Both CSC Academic All-District honorees were part of Kenyon's top doubles duo this season. Gonzalez and Pocasangre Kreling paired up at No. 1, leading the team with a 16-9 overall record and a 12-8 mark in duals. The duo was ranked No. 25 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) doubles rankings for most of the year. Pocasangre Kreling is the ITA's No. 16-ranked singles player, while Gonzalez is ranked No. 49.
