CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The NCAA unveiled the draws for the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship on Thursday afternoon, shedding light on what's on deck for Kenyon College's Paulo Pocasangre Kreling. The Owls' representative will make his NCAA singles debut Friday morning at 10 a.m. Pacific time, kicking off the first round of play at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.
Pocasangre Kreling heads to the national stage with a 20-8 overall singles record this season, going 18-4 over the spring dual season. All but one of the junior's wins came at the No. 1 spot in Kenyon's lineup as he has developed into the team's top player. With his first selection to the NCAA Singles Championship, Pocasangre Kreling became Kenyon's first NCAA individual representative since 2019. The Guacimo, Costa Rica, native was ranked No. 19 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national DIII standings, and he has checked in as high as No. 16 this spring.
Pocasangre Kreling's first-round opponent is also a first-time NCAA singles selection. Kailas Kahler will be representing the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, becoming MIT's first individual representative since 2017. The graduate student played all 13 of his singles matches in the first flight, compiling an 8-5 record over the spring. Kahler is the ITA's No. 26-ranked singles player and carries a two-match winning streak onto the national stage.
The winner of Friday's first-round matchup will advance to the second round later in the day at 2 p.m. Pacific time. Pomona-Pitzer's Drew Goldman, the No. 8 seed in the 32-player field, and Denison University's Kael Shah will square off to earn the right to play the winner of the matchup between Pocasangre Kreling and Kahler.
Goldman is ranked No. 12 in the ITA standings, and the first-year was recently named the 2025 ITA Division III Men's Rookie of the Year after starting his collegiate career with a 17-5 singles record. Shah is the ITA's No. 3-ranked singles player, and the junior has amassed an impressive 29-6 singles record so far this season that includes a 19-4 mark in dual play. Shah's record will change between now and tomorrow morning's singles match as the two-time NCAA Singles Championship selection will be hoping to help the Big Red win the NCAA Team Championship this evening in the DIII team finale between Denison and Case Western Reserve University.
