Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Owls score twice late to draw Polar Bears

ADA, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's soccer team faced a daunting 2-0 deficit after 60 minutes in the team's non-conference finale on Saturday afternoon on the road against Ohio Northern. However, thanks to two late tallies from Joaquin Sanchez-Korenfeld in the 78th minute and Jack Commandeur in the 90th minute, the Owls were able to sneak away with a 2-2 draw.

The first half was a scoreless affair, but there was plenty of action as each team had five shots. Kenyon's best early chance came off the foot of sophomore Robert Little, who curled a shot top right but it was just knocked away. Towards the end of the half, Ethan Castaneda and Isaac Cortez each turned in low shots on goal, but both were turned away.

Starting keeper Dominic Pratt was only required to make one save in the first, setting the stage for an action-packed second half.

Ohio Northern broke through in the 49th minute for the game's first score. The Polar Bears had another two chances before scoring again ten minutes later to go up 2-0.

From that point, the Owls defense locked up the home team, only surrendering two shots for the rest of the game and none on goal, allowing the team to tilt the field and begin the comeback.

Gassama fired a shot on goal in the 76th minute that was saved, but two minutes later, Sanchez-Korenfeld booted in the opening goal for Kenyon off an assist from Isaac Cortez. It was his first of the season and gave his team a chance with just over 20 minutes remaining to find the equalizer.

With four seconds left in the match, Kenyon did just that. In a last ditch effort, Pratt found Cortez who centered a ball to Commandeur for the tying goal, his second of 2025.

For the game, the Owls held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal but trailed in corners 11-2. Commandeur, Cortez, and David Do all had two shots to share the team lead.

With a record of 4-1-4, Kenyon will start the North Coast Athletic Conference slate with a match-up against No. 1 ranked Denison University on Saturday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m. from Granville.
