Koonar collects another NCAC weekly award

CLEVELAND -- For the first time this season and for the fourth time in his career, Kenyon College senior Jaiden Koonar was selected as the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Athlete of the Week for men's golf.

Koonar's most recent selection, announced Tuesday, was based on his stellar play at the three-round Wabash Invitational, held last Monday and Tuesday at Broadmoor Country Club in Crawfordsville, Indiana. In that tournament, Koonar posted a score of five-under-par 211 and tied for an individual fourth-place finish in the field of 90 golfers.

Koonar had four birdies and four bogeys for an even-par score of 72 in the first round. In the second round, he constructed a two-over 74 that included three birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey.
In Tuesday's third and final round, Koonar registered one of the best rounds in his collegiate career, as he fired off five birdies and an eagle to card a seven-under-par 65. That was just one stroke off his Kenyon best score of 64, which he tallied at last year's Port City Classic.

Koonar's play helped No. 2-ranked Kenyon take the Invitational team title, two strokes ahead of No. 3-ranked Emory University.

Koonar previously won the NCAC Athlete of the Week award once as a sophomore and twice in his first-year season of 2023-24.
