Bondartsov and Nigro seal Owls' victory

DELAWARE, Ohio — The No. 17-ranked Kenyon College men's soccer team (13-3, 6-1 NCAC) played their penultimate match of the regular season on Tuesday night against Ohio Wesleyan University (4-7-5, 3-3-1 NCAC) with one goal in mind.

They entered with the hopes of clinching a top-two seed in the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tournament, which would guarantee them home-field advantage in the semifinals next week. 

While the Owls' hopes of reaching that goal seemed like an uphill battle early on, they managed to find some offensive momentum, spearheaded by Adrian Bondartsov and Joey Nigro's heroics, and eventually they won 4-2 and clinched a top-two seed in next week's conference tournament.

The early going was a back-and-forth skirmish, with possession bouncing between the two teams and neither squad managing to convert any opportunity into a goal. 

While the Owls had managed two shot attempts to the Bishops' one prior to the 27-minute mark, it was Ohio Wesleyan that was able to score first on a low center goal from Brady Catanzarite. 

The Owls' hopes were not diminished, though. They answered back three minutes later with an offensive onslaught: a no-doubter from Joey Nigro in the 31st minute and another in the 37th minute. With a third from Adrian Bondartsov were all it took to make it 3-1 Kenyon by the end of the first half. 

Both sides managed to notch an additional goal, with Catanzarite notching his second for the Bishops and Adrian Bondartsov scoring off assists from Peter Bondartsov and Kevin Farina, finishing off the match for a final of 4-2.

Before the excitement of a high-intensity home playoff game for Kenyon, they will first finish the regular season, facing off against The College of Wooster at home on Saturday for the Owls' Senior Day.
