Owls clinch a playoff spot after 2-0 victory

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College field hockey team (9-8, 8-3) celebrated the graduating senior class and clinched a spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament after a 2-0 victory over The College of Wooster (3-8, 4-11).

The Owls offensively dominated the game right from the first draw. In the first quarter alone, the Owls outshot the Fighting Scots, 8-0.

The Kenyon team was able to find the back of the net in the fifth minute of the game when senior forward Ella Adamec scored off of a pass from Casey Master.

The Scots' goalkeeper, Nono Kauffman, made three big saves in the 11th minute of the first quarter to keep her team in the game. Maren Lawrence and Gigi Johnson both had some strong chances on net that were ultimately denied by Wooster.

The Owls continued to lead the game, 1-0, headed into the second half. With not much action during either the second or third quarter, the Scots continued to fight hard in the last fifteen minutes of the game in hopes of putting something past Kenyon goalkeeper, Sofia Chaves.

After a long stretch of time, a penalty corner was inserted in the 51st minute by senior defender Ada Wigfield. Lawrence picked the ball up and found the stick of senior forward Abby Golub, who snuck one in at 51:56 to give the Owls some cushion room and lead the game, 2-0.

The Owls ended the game outshooting the Scots, 21-2, and forcing Wooster to make 8 saves.

Today's result guarantees the season continues in the Semifinal Round of the NCAC Tournament. The Owls will take on the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, November 4 at 4:00 p.m. in Delaware, OH.
