Maher collects second NCAC weekly honor

CLEVELAND --  Sophomore forward Hendrika Maher collected her second North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Athlete of the Week honor after netting the game winning goal against John Carroll University for a 2-1 victory in double overtime.

Although the Owls were offensively dominant all game against the Blue Streaks, outshooting them 27-6, they ended the fourth quarter with an even scoreline. John Carroll's goalkeeper, Ellison Hilgendorf, did not make it easy on the Kenyon team to put one past her after she continued to show up making some big saves.

With 4:21 left on the clock in the second overtime, a John Carroll defender tried to clear the ball out of the Blue Streaks circle, but committed a foul. Maher, who was the Kenyon player that drew the foul, quickly reset and took an open shot from the middle of the circle and beat Hilgendorf to the lower left corner.

Maher has played in all 15 games for the Owls (7-8, 6-3) and started 14 of them. With the addition of Saturday's goal, she leads the team with season totals of eight goals and 17 points.

Maher and the Owls' will fight for a spot in the NCAC Tournament in their last regular season game on Saturday at home against The College of Wooster at 11:00 AM.
