Blazevich earns NCAC’s weekly football award

CLEVELAND -- After helping the Kenyon College defense to a strong performance at Wittenberg University on Saturday, junior linebacker Trey Blazevich was selected Tuesday as the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Defensive Athlete of the Week for football.

Blazevich led the Owls in tackles with eight against the Tigers. Two of those tackles went in the books as quarterback sacks. The first of those two sacks thwarted an early second-quarter possession for Wittenberg. The second of the two came in the fourth quarter with Kenyon leading by a point and the Tigers facing a fourth-down-and-12 at the Owls' 30-yard line.

Blazevich, who now has 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks on the year, was also credited with a quarterback hurry against Wittenberg. He spearheaded a Kenyon defense that forced four Wittenberg turnovers and held the Tigers to 238 yards of total offense.

Kenyon's 17-13 win over Wittenberg was its first since the 1914 season. Since Wittenberg started play in the NCAC in 1989, the Tigers previously won 26 straight conference games against Kenyon.
