Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Owls start spring schedule with two wins

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The No. 16-ranked Kenyon College women's tennis team opened spring semester play on Saturday with a couple of wins inside the Jasper Tennis Center. In the morning, the Owls cruised to a 7-0 victory against the Capital University Comets and, in the afternoon, they duplicated that winning score against the Otterbein University Cardinals.

Against Capital (4-4), the Kenyon team did not drop a game in any one of the three doubles matches. The clean 6-0 scores were produced by Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime at No. 1, by Shadia Amado Aguad and Kiara Komlodi at No. 2, and by Sophia Carling and Bridgette Kelly at No. 3.

Nouaime, a sophomore, continued the shutout streak in her No. 2 singles match, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win over Annika Hansen. Three other Kenyon singles players nearly did the same, but wound up yielding one game in their second sets. Those three that ended up with 6-0, 6-1 results included Maya Stolarsky, a first-year, at No. 3, Elizabeth Ackermann, a sophomore, at No. 4, and Sophia Carling, also a sophomore, at No. 5.

Rounding out the Kenyon sweep were Komlodi, who posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 against Scarlett Stephens and Madeline Chappars, who knocked off Jenny Rollins, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.

More of the same results poured in during the afternoon match against Otterbein. Like the first contest, Nouaime remained on a roll winning her No. 3 singles match against Niya Bell, 6-1, 6-0 to collect three match wins on the day.

Amado Aguad matched that three-win total when she teamed back up with Komlodi to win the No. 1 doubles match 6-1 against Otterbein's pairing of Bell and Taryn Simmers. Komlodi then stayed on the courts for singles play and racked up her fourth match win of the day, toppling Brenna Ball 6-0, 6-0.

Otterbein (0-2) had just five players on its roster so the Owls won the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles match by walkovers.

The other Owls' doubles match victory came from Clare Hudson and Stolarsky. They posted a 6-1 triumph at No. 2, defeating Ball and Raina Smith.

Closing out the day, Stolarsky and Ackermann put up straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

The Owls, now with a 2-0 record, jump right back on the courts tomorrow. They'll play at Ohio Wesleyan University at 9 a.m. and then return home to take on John Carroll University at 2 p.m.
