Owls bounce back with 7-0 win over CNU

ORLANDO, Fla -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team snapped a brief two-game slide by shutting out No. 25 Christopher Newport University, 7-0, during Thursday play at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus. The No. 17-ranked Owls won eight of the nine matches played against the Captains.

To kick things off, the Kenyon women won two of the three doubles matches, claiming the overall team point. Shadia Amado Aguad and Kiara Komlodi dialed up a 6-3 win at No. 2, while Clare Hudson and Bridgette Kelly posted a 6-2 win at No. 3. 

When singles play unfolded, the Owls won four of those six matches in straight sets. Senior Eleni Lazaridou, who has a No. 41 national singles ranks, rolled in the featured match, topping Christopher Newport's Kendal Chang 6-0, 6-1. 


Other straight-set wins for Kenyon came from sophomores Hana Nouaime and Kelly, as well as from Amado Aguad, a senior. Nouaime won at No. 3 singles by a 6-1, 6-1 count, Amado Aguad took the No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-2, and Kelly posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6


The other two singles matches went to third-set tiebreakers. In the No. 2 match, Komlodi, a first-year, outlasted Kyle Schaefer 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). And, at No. 5, sophomore Elizabeth Ackermann held on for a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) triumph against Emma Carver.


Kenyon, now with a 5-2 overall record, returns to action tomorrow to take on No. 28-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 11:30 a.m.
