NCAC awards continue to accrue for Blackmer

CLEVELAND -- For the fourth time this academic year and for the third time this outdoor track and field season, Kenyon College sophomore Charlie Blackmer was declared the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Athlete of the Week in the men's mid-distance/distance category.

Blackmer's most recent award was announced by the NCAC on Tuesday and his selection was based on his performance during Saturday's Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell University. At that meet, Blackmer ran the 1,500-meter race in a Kenyon record time of  3:51.73. That mark eliminated the previous program record of 3:54.47, set nearly 35 years ago by Aaron Emig '04. His time now also ranks first among all NCAA Division III runners in the Great Lakes Region.

The field at the Bison Outdoor Classic was loaded with NCAA Division I scholarship student-athletes, so Blackmer ended up placing 45th in a field of 86.

Blackmer previously won NCAC Athlete of the Week awards on February 10, during the indoor season. Then, in the current outdoor season, he collected the honor on March 24 and again on April 7.

Blackmer and the rest of the Owls team will be back in action on Saturday, hosting the Duane Gomez Invitational at Wilder Track.
