Greville earns bronze in NCAC decathlon

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Josh Greville racked up 5,846 points over the last two days and claimed a third-place finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) decathlon, held at Denison University. He did so in a field of 15 competitors, including teammate J'Sun Gardner, who registered a 14th-place finish with 3,456 points.

Greville, a senior, started out the 10-event slate with sixth-place showings in the 100-meter sprint and the long jump, both of which were held Saturday. He finished 10th in the shot put and rebounded with a tie for third place in the high jump. He then wrapped up the first day of competition by winning the 400-meter run, crossing the finish line in 49.86, just shy of his personal best (49.82).

When action resumed Sunday, Greville finished strong again, winning the final event, the 1,500-meter run, with a personal-best time of 4:29.32. Sunday also saw Greville take fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, seventh in the pole vault, ninth in the javelin, and 11th in the discus.

Because Greville finished third, he earned six team points to tack on to Kenyon's total when the Owls host the NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.

Gardner, also a senior, had his best showings in the throws. He placed second in the javelin, posting a career-best throw that spanned 153-6 (47.63 meters), and placed third in the discus with a toss that measured 114-8 (34.96 meters). On Saturday, he also placed ninth in the shot put and 10th in the high jump.
