Kenyon tunes up in final event before NCACs

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's track and field team competed one last time before the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship, making the short trip to Denison University on Friday night for an unscored meet.

Although the number of Kenyon competitors was relatively light throughout the events, the Owls were still able to compile some impressive finishes, including one win.

Kenyon's lone win of the event came from Noah Berg, who bested a field of 12 in the 3000, the final individual event of the night. Berg finished in 8:56.20, a mark which was over five seconds faster than the next finisher. Adam Skidmore and Henry Horsley also competed for the Owls, taking ninth (9:43.62) and 12th (10:34.90) respectively.

The 1500 was a particularly packed event for the Owls, as the team took seventh through tenth place. John Coffin led Kenyon at 4:12.19 followed by John Schaal at 4:16.78 in eighth. Joshua Breard finished in ninth place at 4:18.82 and Luke Galik's 4:19.69 mark rounded out the pack. Matthew Yerger and Henry Rodrigues weren't far behind, taking 12th (4:22.73) and 13th (4:23.57) respectively.

Shortening it up, Kudzaishe Mhere added Kenyon's best finish in a sprint, charging to a 5th place finish in the 100 out of 22 runners, clocking in at 10.97 seconds. Over in the 800, Griffin Suttner just missed out on a top ten finish, coming in eleventh in the 800 at 2:03.74.

Graham Yeager turned in the team's best finish in the field events, placing second in the discus. His best toss was his third, which he heaved 42.25 meters (138-7) to earn the silver. Yeager also added a top ten finish in the shot put, where his 11.73 meter (38-6) toss earned him eighth.

Keynon also added a pair of third place finishes, as Anthony Magera ended on the podium in javelin with a 49.87 meter (163.7) throw. JT Casarico added the other bronze mark, leaping to a 5.90 meter (19-4 ¼) mark in the long jump.

The NCAC Multi-Event Championship will take place on April 25 and 26 from Granville before the main event on May 1 and 2 from Gambier.
