Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Strong offense propels Owls to a win

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team put on a spectacular offensive performance during today's non-conference match-up against the Mount Union Purple Raiders. The team's first-half efforts put three goals into the back of the net and a composed defense led to a 3-0 winning result.

The first half was played mostly in the Owls' offense half or middle third of the field, where they dominated 50/50 battles and put many chances on frame. Mia Voutsinas drilled the first goal at the 17:20 minute mark when she drew a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick. Voutsinas stepped up for the PK with a calm and controlled lower-corner finish.

Voutsinas also recorded an assist for a goal from Rafaela Plasa, an offensive threat for the Owls, marking her third goal of the season. Voutsinas sent a dangerous cross into the box that was headed on toward the back post by Emily Copeland. Plasa took a touch to bring the ball down and half-volleyed it into the net which stretched the Owls lead, 2-0.

Copeland, the team's lead goal scorer from the 2025 season, hit a screamer from outside the 18-yard box that found the upper left corner late in the 26th minute to finish off the scoring for the Owls.

With the extreme heat taking a toll physically, the Owls focused their energy into maintaining the 3-0 lead. During the second half, Maia Pasco had an excellent shot that just missed high left in the 60th minute and Plasa would tally on another dangerous free kick attempt. The Owls forced the Purple Raiders goalkeeper to make 5 saves total and outshot Mount Union, 15-3.

On the defensive end, Hannah Schmidt, a sophomore center-back, put on an excellent display of composure and hustle. Schimdt cleaned up many balls that seeped into the backline and remained focused on the Purple Raiders' lofted offensive attacks. Flanking Schmidt was Georgia Yatrakis and Mary Pietila, both of whom contributed to today's clean sheet. Kenyon goalkeeper, Lila Michael, recorded the only save for the Owls.

Kenyon women's soccer will be on the road for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday against Adrian College.
